Leading Lasik Technology in Brooklyn
Although the skill and experience of your LASIK surgeon are ultimately most important to your visual outcomes, the technology used is also critical. As a Brooklyn LASIK provider, Dr. Samer Khosrof has invested in the leading LASIK technology to ensure precise, safe and long-term visual outcomes. He was the first doctor in New York to invest in the Alcon refractive suite, which includes the WaveLight® EX500 excimer laser and the WaveLight® FS200 femtosecond laser. This means that his experience with this particular platform is virtually unmatched.
Both Alcon lasers use advanced WaveLight® technology, which captures a map or “fingerprint” of the eye’s unique characteristics and imperfections. This data is fed to the lasers to guarantee customized and accurate treatment. The integration of both the femtosecond and excimer lasers makes the patient experience quick, comfortable and convenient.
The WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser
The EX500 is one of the premier excimer lasers used in LASIK treatment. It allows Dr. Khosrof to correct refractive errors quickly, precisely and comfortably for his patient. Operating at 500 Hz, it is the fastest excimer laser used today.
Speed is not the only special feature of this laser. The EX500 offers a multi-dimensional eye tracker to follow the eye’s minuscule movements and guarantee the correct placement of each laser pulse. And the lightening-fast pattern of laser pulses reduces the risk of the patient developing halos or glare after treatment in low-light conditions (like at night). Also, the EX500 is less likely to dry out the cornea during treatment and cause swelling. It reduces recovery time and enables the patient to enjoy a more comfortable overall experience. Finally, the EX500 produces more consistent results than its alternatives.
The WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser
The FS200 is responsible for creating the corneal flap before the EX200 reshapes the corneal tissue. It emits 200,000 pulses of energy per second, and is able to create a standard flap in approximately six seconds, which is the fastest time recorded in flap creation. Flaps created with the FS200 are precise and lead to rapid healing, enhanced patient comfort and better overall visual outcomes.
The laser platform gently and gradually places suction on the eye so there is no pain or intense pressure. Most patients mention they feel almost nothing as this step of the procedure happens. Two pumps work simultaneously to ensure continuous suction and prevent loss of suction.
Dr. Khosrof can adjust the flap size and shape, as well as the hinge size and position to the patient’s individual needs. The low-pulse energy and distinct cutting pattern produces more accurate flaps that are easier to lift to access the underlying smooth stromal bed of tissue. A precise and accurate flap is more likely to seal itself to the surface of the eye after treatment for a seamless recovery.
